RigCheck - Electronic Testing of yacht rigs help prevent a dismast - Poole, Dorset
Good mast maintenance programs can help prevent a dismast. As part of your overall yacht maintenance program it is essential that in addition to your masthead inspection you visually inspect all your shroud/stay fittings at least once per year. However, it is virtually impossible to check the integrity of your shroud/stay fittings by visual inspection alone. Internal corrosion, broken strands, cracked terminals, defective swaging or poor assembly of swageless terminations are all potential failures waiting to happen – the very things you can’t see!
RigCheck offers a method of yacht rig testing using an electronic technique originally pioneered by Maidsure. In addition to your marine survey or yacht rigging survey this non-destructive test (NDT) will give you that extra confidence and peace of mind that your rig is in good condition also enabling you to show that you have used reasonable endeavours to properly maintain your yacht.
Even the best yacht surveys are unable to reveal all the potential problems but why replace the complete rig, the only other alternative, if RigCheck can identify the failing individual components at a fraction of the cost?
Remember, as the owner of a boat, it is your responsibility to make sure it is maintained in a seaworthy condition. Failure to do so may render your insurance void.
